Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cut my pets nails?

It can be challenging especially for new pet owners to try and cut their pets nails. Here are some how to videos to try at home, to save your furry friend a trip to the groomer or the vet!

What kind of food should I feed my pet?

There are LOTS of pet food brands out there nowadays, and we suggest always looking for brands that meet the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) standards, but here at Village, we strongly recommend diets by Hills, Royal Canin, Iams, and Purina.

Is raw food a good option for my pet?

Truthfully, while a raw diet may seem appealing, especially to bigger dogs, it can be a very dangerous diet. If not properly balanced by a veterinary nutritionist, your pet will not be getting the necessary vitamins and nutrients they need for a healthy lifestyle and can cause issues like pancreatitis or taurine deficiency. Another big concern with raw diets is the spread of things like E. Coli, Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter. These disease-causing bacteria can live in your pet's raw food diets and can be transferred to humans in the house due to either your pet licking you directly, or licking inanimate objects like toys, tables, blankets, and more that you come in to contact with on a daily basis. Should my pet be on preventative medications year-round?

Yes! We highly recommend any pet that goes outdoors to be on preventative medications. These include flea and tick prevention, and heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention. These are both VERY important not only during the warm months but during the 'cold' months as well. In Canada, our weather is quite up and down and to keep your pet fully protected, year-round is the best way to go.
